Texas STAAR testing
April begins the state of Texas STAAR testing season. Please be mindful that due to security reasons, visitors are not allowed in the building on state testing days. Please do not plan on coming for lunch or volunteering on these days. In addition, please be mindful of the testing days and refrain from scheduling any doctor appointments that may interfere with your child’s test. Students will not be allowed to have electronic devices on them during the testing session. It may be best to leave those items at home on testing days. If a student brings electronic devices to school on testing days, the device will be collected and held until the testing period is over. The list of electronic devices includes: cell phones, cameras, IPod, IPad or tablets, calculator watches, or any other handheld or electronic device.
The STAAR testing dates are as follows:
March 30th : 4th grade Writing
March 31st : 4th grade Writing, 5th grade Reading
April 21st : 3rd, 4th, and 5th Math
April 22nd : 3rd and 4th grade Reading, 5th grade Science
Parent Survey information
In an effort to build and support partnerships between campuses and parents, we would like for you to complete a brief survey to help us determine areas of strengths, as well as areas for improvement.
En un esfuerzo por fomentar y apoyar la relación entre las escuelas y los padres, les pedimos que llenen esta breve encuesta que nos ayudará a identificar nuestras fortalezas y aquellas áreas donde necesitamos mejorar.
Please be aware that on STAAR testing days we will not be able to have visitors on campus. This affects all grade levels. Please do not plan on eating with your children or volunteering on these days. If a student leaves school once testing has begun, they will not be able to finish the test later. If a student arrives late, they may not be able to take the test. Please do not plan any appointments for your child on testing dates. If you have any questions please contact Rebecca DeLeon our school counselor. Thank you.

2014-2015 Volunteer Application
New/renewed volunteer application will be ready for the 2014-2015 after June 15th.
Remember you MUST fill out or renew your online application every year. The first of every school year is very busy , so fill out your application as soon as possible. If you are not sure that you will volunteer, go ahead and fill out form. This way your approval will be on file if the need arises. As grades start planning field trips the volunteer site gets hit with high volume again, so it may take a few days longer to be approved. Don't miss out, apply now!
Simply go to https://volunteer.leanderisd.org/ and enter the information as prompted. Please remember, this must be done every year, so even if you volunteered last year, LISD requires that you log in and verify your information again. You will receive an email from this site saying "you are approved to volunteer at Giddens Elementary" telling you info about the site and how to get a name tag. Please bring in your name badge and your ID and I will print you a picture ID tag. All visitors, including approved volunteers must wear a photo badge while on campus.
The Texas Department of Agriculture has some guidelines regarding food at school. Please remember...birthday treats ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE CAFETERIA. If you would like to bring a birthday treat for your students birthday, you must first contact their teacher and arrange a time.

Who are WATCH D.O.G.S.
(Dads Of Great Students)?
WATCH D.O.G.S. are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year at an official WATCH D.O.G.S. school. During the day, WATCH D.O.G.S. may read and work on flash cards with kids, play at recess, eat lunch with their child, watch the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow, mentor students, and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their child(ren), but other students as well. Their mere presence offers additional security at the school during the day! On the day of their participation, the participants are given a brief review of their involvement and they wear an official WATCH D.O.G.S. Across America® t-shirt or vest identifying them as WATCH D.O.G.S.
